Nike ACG Mountain Fly 2 Low x Doernbecher Freestyle "Garrett"

As part of the Doernbecher Freestyle program, which gives young patients the opportunity to work with Nike designers, Garrett's shoe is an ode to his hobbies and home in the Pacific Northwest. Layers of trees and mountains add a hiking aesthetic to the upper, and he even added realistic mud splatters so you never have to worry about getting them dirty. Leaving no stone unturned, Garrett honors his family members with a chessboard pattern for his grandpa, as well as purple butterflies throughout for his twin brother who passed away shortly after birth.

Inspired by Nature

Layers of trees, mountains and a sheath of textured rock cover the upper, while a blue waterfall cascades down the tongue. A translucent layer with clouds adds texture and dimension.

For Friends and Family

Garrett didn't think his friends would believe he had his own shoe unless he added his initials, found on the tongue. Purple butterflies throughout the design are a nod to Garrett's twin brother, as this NICU symbol celebrates the life of a patient's lost sibling.

Clock Those Details

The chessboard background on the sockliners acknowledges his love of playing chess with his grandpa. The floral pattern on one mirrors his most prized possession—a pocket watch given to him by his grandpa.

Doernbecher Freestyle Program

Since 2004, Nike’s Doernbecher Freestyle Program has raised nearly $37 million for OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital. This special partnership gives young patients the opportunity to work with Nike designers to create their own collections of Nike and Jordan Brand sneakers, apparel and accessories. Their one-of-a-kind collections are then auctioned off at the program’s annual fundraiser—with every penny going to the children’s hospital.
